Joint ODN Transfer

The Cheshire & Mersey Major Trauma and Adult Critical Care Operational Delivery Networks (ODNs) both cover pathways where transfer of patients who may be acutely or critically ill may form an integral part of their care. These transfers are audited for safety and quality and whether they have been carried out at the most appropriate time. The Cheshire & Mersey Major Trauma ODN has joined with the established Adult Critical Care Transfer Group to form a Joint ODN group. This has given benefits of sharing expertise and experience in this area of care. The group is chaired by Dr Dan Saul, Consultant Intensivist, and its aims are given below:

  • Establish appropriate common protocols, guidelines and best practice
  • Share lessons concerning transfer related clinical incidents and other clinical governance
  • Review critical care transfer audit data and make recommendations for improvement
  • Review critical care transfers between hospital sites including ‘reverse transfers’ & ‘repatriations’ and the independent sector
  • Review major trauma time critical transfers between trauma units and the major trauma centre
  • Ensure data collection and analysis relating to transfers is robust, make recommendations for change
  • Support transfer e-learning programme
